Well we made it out of Dallas as planned, had to take a little detour thru
Houston to have the service performed on the motor home to insure
continued performance and road worthyness for the coming year.
Unfortunately, that didn't prepare us for a Fan Belt that would decide
to break with so few miles on it. I suspect that there could be another
issue that may be uncovered later today when they replace the fan clutch
and put a new belt on.
It seems very premature for the belt to break and I have read everything
from misaligned pulleys, tensioners and alternator that have gone bad causing
a fan belt to break prematurly.
From a cost point if for any reason its determined what caused the belt to break
may change who might be paying the bill for this repair.
Guess newer isn't always better! Our Phaeton with a little over 50,000 miles
never let us down, no belt breaks or such.
We consider ourselves lucky that this all occurred at an exit off I10 and only
2 miles from Martin Truck, a Freightliner Custom Chassis dealer.
They ordered the parts on Friday and they arrived this morning. We are now
waiting for a tech to be available.
Once the parts are installed then we hope to get on the road again in route to
New Orleans.
