WOW we went to the heart of the Everglades and visited a hamock which was old fish camp. I understand from our guide even President Eisenhower had been there to visit some old buddies. The house now belongs to the Everglades national park which is doing noting with it to preserve it. Coopertown Airboat tours keeps the grounds mowed so they have a a mock to show visitors of the Everglades.
The majority of what we saw had 6 inches or more of water, however understand a few years back the drought was so bad that there were spots that there was no water.
In the pictures that follow our #1 critter we crossed paths with was the alligators. They were kind of funny in that they were swimming the channel directly to the boat. We would stop and they would come up and look at the boat. Thankfully they stayed in the water. Alligators grow about an inch per year and only are able to survive the 1st 3 years as long as they stay close to their mother to have protection from other wildlife. After 3 years they are kicked out to begin finning for themselves. If the babies stayed together beyond 3 years they will begin to eat each other.
Enjoy!!
